Is DC360 Fireproof Paint?

IFTI’s DC360 Fireproof Paint is a high- performance, low VOC, water-based, thin-film intumescent fire retardant and fire-resistant coating. 

DC360 has been tested to provide fire ratings meeting IBC/IRC Building Codes for fire resistance and meets ASTME84 and UL723 Flame Spread and Smoke ratings as a Class A coating.

DC360 has been tested for use on many substrates including, Wood, OSB, Plywood, Gypsum, and more.  DC360 is used to increase fire resistance on floor and ceiling assemblies, wall assemblies, roof-ceiling assemblies, and individual structural members.

What is an Intumescent Coating?

Intumescent Coatings expand or swell when exposed to fire or radiant heat, protecting the material underneath.  Intumescent paint is not fireproof paint.  This swelling is often referred to as a “Char Barrier”.  DC360 expands from a thin film coating of 4 mils dry film thousands of times.  This “Char Barrier” creates an insulating barrier that protects the substrate from fire. Intumescent is used on many wood surfaces, including soft and hardwoods, OSB, Plywood, doors, paneling, cladding, Gypsum, and most other combustible substrates.

What is the difference between fire resistance and flame spread?

Fire-resistance rating is determined by the ability of a product, system, or assembly to limit temperature rise on the unexposed side when tested in accordance with fire resistance test standards such as ASTM E119 or CAN/ULC S101. Passive fire protection systems are designed and tested to increase this endurance or to restore the rating when penetrations are made through a fire barrier.

Is DC360 a Tested Intumescent Fireproof Paint?

DC360 is a water based intumescent coating used to increase fire resistance ratings and reduce the flammability and smoke development of common construction materials such as OSB/Plywood, gypsum and lumber.

DC360 complies with IBC/IRC Building Codes and provides a Class “A” Interior Finish rating in accordance with ASTM E84.

DC360 has also been tested to provide a 30-minute rating to various combustible substrates in accordance with ASTM E84 (30 Minute), ASTM E2768 and meets the criteria of NFPA 703 Standard for Fire Retardant Impregnated Wood and Fire Retardant Coatings for Building Materials.

Applied as a coating to interior surfaces, DC360 can be top-coated with desired finish latex paint to match décor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can DC360 be used as an alternative ignition or thermal barrier over SPF?

DC360 is a water based intumescent coating used to increase fire resistance ratings and reduce the flammability and smoke development of construction materials like OSB/Plywood, gypsum and lumber not intended for use over SPF.

If I need to achieve a 1 hour rating can I install DC360 thicker to meet the rating?

DC360 has been tested in accordance with ASTME 84 and CAN/ULC S-102 for flammability and smoke development. Check out our DC5040 to meet up to a 90-minute fire resistance in certain wall or floor assemblies. P

Can I apply DC360 all year long?

DC360 is an interior water based acrylic and will freeze at temperatures below 0°C or 32 °F. Recommended installation temperature of a minimum of 10°C or 50° F must be maintained for the duration of installation and curing. It is also important to monitor humidity and do not install DC360 when humidity is over 85% or temperature is within 3°C of the dew point

What type/size of sprayer?

3000 psi and 1 gallon per minute with a 515 -527 tip size. (Graco 795 and higher). Removal of screens from machine and gun is required.

Can I use a topcoat?

interior water-based vinyl/acrylic such as Sherwin Williams A-100, Promar 400, 200 or dryfall paint products are suitable to apply over DC360.

In these cases, the use of a topcoat offers a much higher architectural finish and the testing we have completed verifies that the topcoat will not negatively impact the performance of the coating.

Suitability of the topcoat for a specific end use application should be verified with the topcoat manufacturer prior to installation.

Can DC360 be tinted?

DC360 can be tinted with up to 1 oz per gallon of standard tints
